Élise Jacob was born in Montreal, Quebec, the heart of French North America and has been expressing herself through photography much of her life. Coming from a broadcasting background and having developed a feeling for humanitarian issues, she has freelanced and volunteered in many places that has included training photography to female journalists in Kabul, documenting the Afghanistan election of 2004 and taking street photography in Haiti after the devastating Earthquake of 2010.

In 2015, Élise graduated from the International Center of Photography's 'Documentary Photography and Photojournalism' program in New York, where she was the recipient of the 'ICP Director's Scholarship'. In that same year, she was selected for the Eddie Adams Workshop (XXVIII). In 2016, she received the Youmanity Image Photography Award, presented by the Royal Geographic Society in London, England. Another scholarship, from The Missouri Photo Workshop, The Helge Hummelvoll Scholarship. She is currently living in New York, working on many projects of interest.
